Pope Clement VIII

When coffee was first introduced to Europe, it was viewed in a bad light. When Clement's advisors told him to ban the substance, he refused to do it until he tried it. After he tasted it, he declared, "This Satan’s drink is so delicious that it would be a pity to let the infidels have exclusive use for it.” Legend has it that he even said it should be baptized!

Temperance

Known as one of the four cardinal virtues, temperance is defined as “the righteous habit which makes a man govern his natural appetite for pleasures of the senses in accordance with the norm prescribed by reason” (Catholic Encyclopedia). You can practice this virtue by moderating the amount of caffeine you consume and protecting your body as it is a temple for the Holy Spirit.

Addiction

The Catholic Church views addictions as a threat to one's physical body and spiritual life. Although usually referring to substance abuse, one can become addicted to caffeine and let it control their life. The Church offers many recovery programs for addictions and is very supportive.
